Steps to take:

After the 24 Day Challenge is Over:

1) Have you hit your goal weight? If no read below.

If you have not hit your goal weight my suggestion is to continue on products until you do. Here are some foundation products to stay on:

Hey Brother

This past weekend I spent with family in Charlotte NC.  We celebrated my dad’s 71’st Birthday :)  He’s kind of a big kid so 71 doesn’t seem like his age to me at all.

We went to the FSU /Duke ACC championship football game.  My brother and I both went to Florida State so we are all big fans…We are loving the fact that they are number one right now.  It’s been awhile :)

Getting together with family can be both fun and exhausting depending on your relationships.  I couldn’t help but notice how much food plays a role in every kind of celebration though.  When your trying to eat healthy it’s not always easy at family get togethers….

Is it ok to indulge once in awhile? Sure…I think the key is to not go overboard.  Don’t make it a weekend of gluttony.  Family and food can go hand in hand and there is nothing wrong with birthday cake and ice cream on a small scale.

Sometimes we can take this healthy mindset thing to extremes.   I think what I like about the overall concept of the 24 day challenge is that it is about a lifestyle change.  It’s not about dieting for 24 days and then going crazy on cupcakes!  It’s about changing the way we look at food and choosing things that are healthy…

treating our body right..

Don’t obsess about what your eating… If you mess up, rewind the next day and do an extra 20 min walk or bike ride to make up for it.

Don’t over think this…Yes food can be addicting but after you retrain you mind and body to crave what’s good for you, you can overcome it…Don’t let food control your life….

The 5 Biggest Lies We Buy Into

Coming from a psychology/counseling background I can’t help but think about how our mindset plays into losing weight and becoming more healthy.   I decided to come up with a list of the top five biggest lies we tell ourselves and how to change that type of thinking.

Concerning the 24 Day Challenge I have also noticed a few people being very hesitant to start.  These 5 lies are some of the things that they tell me are going on in their head.  I think we all do this to an extent in our lives but it’s definitely not healthy and once you push through the negative mindset and accomplish something (even a baby step) it is just makes the reward that much sweeter!

1.  I Don’t Deserve It:

So much of the time we think that success only happens to other people not us.  Whether we bought into this at a young age or whenever, the feeling of being undeserving can stem from not wanting to be selfish or conceited.  Maybe not wanting attention to go to you in some way or  saying things like, “I don’t deserve to be fit, I’m not worth the effort” to yourself.

Whenever those thoughts enter your head just remember that you are resisting positive change at that moment.  Your clinging to the negative and not wanting to progress. This is not always an easy change, but forgiving yourself can be a great first step.  Forgive yourself for gripping onto the things that hold you back and move toward self confidence and hope for the future.

2. I’m Not Ready:

Big news flash, you’ll never feel completely ready.  Conditions will never be perfect and your not always going to feel like taking the steps you need in order to lose weight.  Life in general is full of this…ready to have kids, ready to get married, ready to make a career change…etc..

Just understanding that concept of the fact that you are never completely ready should be a freeing feeling. The first step that needs to happen with this lie is to take action! Even it is a small action, just do something toward becoming the healthier you.  It can start small, but start!

3. I’ll Never be as thin as So and So:

You may not…and that’s ok.  The goal is better health not necessarily a lower scale number.  When we look to others and compare ourselves it’s just self defeating.  Your body is yours, so embrace it and move closer to better health.  Everyone has their own issues and once you realize that no one is perfect even if they wear a size 2, you can let go of the lie that so and so is better than you.

4. It’s Too Late to Start:

It’s never too late to take your health into your own hands and make a change.  No matter what age you are,  losing weight and moving toward a healthier lifestyle, can add many more years that you may not have had with family and friends.

5. I Can’t Do It:

This is a big one especially if you have tried dieting or other programs in the past and have gained the weight back.  Again this is self defeating and you really need to understand the difference between “can’t and won’t”.  There is a big difference between the two yet we sometimes use them interchangeably.

You can do what you put your mind to.  If you want to change you can take the steps to get there.  Sometimes focusing on the end result can be a good thing but don’t get overwhelmed and just quit.  Again…baby steps and taking action are key to getting past this lie.

Change is not always easy.  Don’t let your mindset hold you back from what’s possible! I believe everyone is made for a purpose and to buy into these lies keeps you from being your best self.  There may be slip ups and many obstacles to climb but the trials make you stronger and you’ll appreciate the new you so much more!
